I know it sounds silly, but after 28 years of on-site computer repair Tulsa, I still get a rush when I solve a truly puzzling network problem.
A small company called in a panic: their entire building—30 separate businesses—had suddenly lost internet. They were fairly tech-savvy and had already done most of the usual checks:
- ISP confirmed the circuit to the building was fine
- They could browse when a laptop was plugged directly into the router
- The moment the building switches were connected → everything died
Pressure? You could say that.
I started with the basics (even though they swore they’d done them). Verified the router settings, plugged my own laptop straight in—internet worked perfectly.
Then I connected the west-side switch → still good.
Connected the east-side switch → instant blackout.
Now we were getting somewhere. Half the building was back online while I dug into the east side.
I asked the landlord, “Did anything change recently? New tenant? Anyone move?”
Turns out a new tenant had just moved in on the east side—and the timing matched exactly.
Every office had a landlord-provided wall jack (optional paid service). The new tenant had plugged their own router into that jack… but into the wrong port.
Result? A perfect network loop that crashed the entire building the second the east switch came online.
One cable swap later → reconnected the east switch → internet stayed up solidly for all 30 tenants.
That’s the thing about great on-site computer repair Tulsa work: half technical skill, half detective. I always ask, “What changed right before the problem started?” Nine times out of ten, that question points straight to the fix—even when the customer doesn’t realize the connection.
