At Fireytech, few things beat the feeling of a long-term customer trusting us again. Some clients have been with us for over 15 years. This is one of their stories.
In 2017 we set up her brand-new Dell laptop and docking station—Outlook synced perfectly, everything was smooth.
Then December 2018 rolled around. The same laptop suddenly froze. Outlook corrupted, then Windows went into an endless “attempting repairs” loop. No restore points worked. Time for a full Windows 10 reload.
Back at our shop near 91st & Sheridan, we ran Dell diagnostics—RAM, CPU, video, and flash storage all passed. We backed up her data, reinstalled Windows 10 with our standard Dell media, restored everything, and delivered a perfectly running machine.
It worked beautifully… for a few weeks.
Then it crashed again—exact same symptoms.
We replaced the flash storage and RAM (just to be safe), reloaded Windows again, and returned it.
A few weeks later… crash. Again.
At this point we were stumped. No viruses, all hardware tested good, clean installs—yet the laptop refused to stay stable.
Out of ideas, we called Dell support and asked if we were missing something specific to this model. The tech asked one simple question:
“Are you using the exact factory image that shipped with this laptop?”
We had been using our universal Dell Windows 10 media (which works on hundreds of machines without issue). The tech insisted this particular model required its original image.
The customer couldn’t find her recovery media, but Dell showed us how to download the exact factory image using her service tag. We wiped the laptop one last time and installed that specific image.
Result? Rock-solid ever since—and that was years ago.
Most repairs are straightforward. This one reminded us that even with nearly three decades of experience, sometimes the answer is one tiny, model-specific detail—and the persistence to keep looking until we find it.
We checked in weekly for a month, then monthly for a while after. The laptop never crashed again.
That’s the Fireytech promise: we don’t stop until it’s truly fixed.
